Ozzy Osbourne is one of the most iconic figures in the history of rock & roll. As the lead singer of Black Sabbath, Ozzy, along with Tommy Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward, were the progenitors of heavy metal, paving the way for bands like Hatebreed. In 1996, Ozzy started OzzFest and gave newer bands like Incubus and Lordi, exposure to a massive metal audience of Ozzy devotees. More recently, Ozzy and his family starred in the television reality show, The Osbournes.
As a solo artist, Osbourne has sold over 27 million albums in the US and 50 million worldwide. It is said Ozzy is one of the greatest stars ever to come out of working-class England, and in 2007 a bronze star with his name was placed on Broad Street in his home city of Birmingham. Ozzy has since stated that this honor meant more to him than any other in his long and distinguished career.
